Photo Update

Moving Ahead at a Steady Pace.

Although much of my time until recently was spent fitting out the inside, with the pending sale of the house I am renting and where TIDIDI is being built meant that my focus had to shift from fitting out the interior, to getting the yacht to a point where it was weather proof and could be moved in a hurry.
Good news on this front, as strange as it may seem, is that the house has been sold. Good news because the new owner only wants occupation in about two years which gives me more than ample time to finish the yacht, although current momentum needs to be kept up, as age is against me as well, having just turned a young sixty. I need to have enough time to enjoy the fruits of my hard labour.

What has been happening in the last while? Well as you will have seen from the last couple of updates - few and far between as they may be - all the decks have been completed as well as the cockpit and coach-roof. more recently the cockpit coaming has been completed incorporating the winch pedestals, as well as the cockpit lockers which includes the Gas locker which is above decks with sufficient scuppers to drain off any leaked gas, should there be any. The following are some photographs to illustrate some of this.

Good progress over the past couple of months.

Well here I am again with a long overdue update. Over the past couple of months I have made some good progress, concentrating mainly on getting the boat all closed up and weather proof in case she has to be moved in a hurry. The Decks, Cabin top and Cockpit have all been completed. I have also just finished attaching the Toe Rails and Belting, so I will be able to start with sealing and painting the Decks in the next week or two. Once this is done I will be able to fit the 6mm toughened glass to the Portholes. Included in the photographs below is one of the stateroom with a trial run of the cushions to see what they looked like.

Top On

The top is finally on and the cockpit locker floors have been installed. The lockers aft of the cabin will be for gas on the port side and safety gear on the starboard side. I also now have the glass for the portholes. Soon I will have the yacht sealed from the elements which will make it easier to keep the dust out of the interior, which given the wind we have been having lately is a real problem.

It's been a while.

It really has been a while since I updated the blog. The main reason for this is that I work for an IT company that has useless in-house IT, making it virtually impossible to do any updating at work, and then when I get home I do not have time to do anything on the blog as I am working on the yacht. A lot has happened since I last updated, not least of which is the fact that my Landlady wants to sell the house, so I need to do some serious building to get the yacht "water ready". I had been fitting out the interior but have now had to shift focus to getting the decks finished and the cabin top on. next will be the keel. The plus side of this all, of course, is that she is really starting to look like a yacht now. I am just including some photographs here to show progress and will go into more detail about them, and progress thus far,at a later date.

More Bulkheads

A photo blog to show some other bulkheads which have been put in place. Those that still remain to be done are the Longitudinal bulkhead to enclose the heads on the Starboard side and the rear bulkheads for the Galley and Heads.

Partial Bulkheads

Well she is slowly starting to look more like a yacht on the inside too. I am on a bit of a roll at the moment and seem to be able to achieve more and more in the limited time available.
The partial bulkhead on the starboard side is complete with all the necessary framing attached for the settee berth, as well as the chart table, and is ready to be fixed permanently to frame #6. The one on the port side is still to have it's framing attached before it can be permanently fixed to the frame.

Side Decks

Over the past couple of weeks all the pieces for the side decks have been cut and dry fitted to check for proper allignment. Last night the first layer on the starboard side was permanently glued in place. The sequence of photographs below show the deck carlines in place followed by two of the two layers temporarily in place and lastly the first layer on the starboard side after glueing in place. The batten along the sheer line is temporary and is to ensure a true and even sheer line. Next step will be to do the same on the port side followed bt the second layer on both sides.

Deck Carlines

I have now fitted the Deck Carlines and am busy with planing them down to the correct position as well as planing the sheer in order to fit the side decks. The piece of timber which I cut the carlines from had a curve, which I left, as it saved having to shape the carlines to take the curve of the deck. Note the bulkhead which was temporarily in place has been removed in order to fit the Carlines.

On Monday I took delivery of my final batch of Marine plywood from Roy and Jean at CKD Boats. This will hopefully be all that I need by way of plywood in order to complete construction.
