What it looks like now.

Just a few " inverted" pics to give a better idea of what it looks like now, before I carry on with the story. The intermediate floors - which are the main supports for the two and a half ton keel which will be added at a later stage - have just been completed. I can now add the side stringers and then start the planking which hopefully will be finished by the end of January.

Assembling the "Futtocks" into Frames

The individual pieces were then laid out in there respective layers - 3 for each Frame - on the scrieve board and lined up by means of blocks screwed to the board. Once the glue was applied the layers were clamped together by means of rectangular tube sections screwed through the layers onto the scrieve board. After the glue had set the frames were removed, cleaned up and sealed with epoxy before the spreaders were attached.

Futtocks

A FUTTOCK is any curved piece of timber which is used in the construction of the ribs of a ship. In "TIDIDI", there are 314 "futtocks", which were cut out roughly from the marked up boards with a jigsaw, and then finished off using a bandsaw and belt sander. "TIDIDI" is the name of this project and will ultimately be the christened name of the yacht. If you read it backwards you will get the idea.

How it all started

Once I had the plans the full size patterns were transferred to the "Scrieve Board". Templates were then cut for the pieces(futtocks) required to make up the laminated frames, and then used to mark up the marine ply ready for cutting the individual pieces.

First post - New Blogger

This Blog will revolve mainly around the Yacht I am building, which is a 37ft Hartley Cape Otway. Progress has been slow so far -time and cash flow dictates, however things are progressing at a faster rate at the moment and I am hoping to have all the hull planking completed by the end of January 2009.
